Apple’s System Preferences are fairly extensive, and certainly allow you to quickly alter the most common settings related to your Mac. Though this is perfect for most users, occasionally it becomes necessary to dig a little deeper into your system configuration.

This is where Cocktail comes in. It’s a standalone application that provides all manner of advanced options for you to configure – everything from how the interface of various apps behaves, to adjusting Spotlight, Time Machine, and emptying caches.

Welcome to our coverage of Apple’s “Latest Creation” press event. We’ll be collating news from across the web, and keeping you updated in real-time here. Discussion is open so click “Make a Comment” below and, if it’s good, we’ll post it for everyone else to read and respond to!

Today we’re going to be taking a look at several audio recording applications for OS X. Although GarageBand has become the bundled application for sound recording, we’ll also be investigating a number of smaller and more specialised pieces of software.

If you ever need to record audio – be it for a podcast, interview, radio broadcast, or for any other reason – some of these apps may be particularly interesting!
