Announcement time! I’m incredibly excited to let you know that the first ever AppStorm book (in conjunction with Rockable Press) is coming soon!
If you’ve ever thought about developing an iPhone app (or even if you already have), this book will be a fascinating read. It will provide you with all the knowledge and technique you need to spot a great opportunity, get the most from the App Store, make smart decisions about development, craft a stunning interface, and promote your app successfully.
I’ve conducted a series of interviews with some phenomenally successful iPhone developers that have kindly shared their expertise, and also completed a fascinating survey of over 1,000 iPhone users and developers.

Blog Action Day is an annual event that unites the world’s bloggers in posting about the same issue on the same day. It was started in 2007 by the Envato founders, Collis and Cyan Ta’eed, and last year over 13,000 blogs participated to draw attention to climate change.
The topic this year focuses on water conservation. Right now, almost a billion people on the planet don’t have access to clean, safe drinking water. That’s one in eight of us who are subject to preventable disease and even death because of something that many of us take for granted. Water is a global issue, and it affects all of us.
Last year, we took a look at How Your Mac is Saving the World, and we’ll be taking part in Blog Action Day across the AppStorm network again this year. Will you? Head over to register your blog, and be part of something amazing!
For four years the Envato Marketplaces have helped authors around the world earn an income selling their digital wares. Along the way we’ve grown from one marketplace to seven, with more on the way. We’ve gone from hundreds of members to hundreds of thousands. Items from our marketplaces have appeared in projects for companies big and small, all around the world. And most importantly of all, we’ve had thousands of authors cash out earnings, ranging from a bit of money for a big weekend to sums in the tens of thousands of dollars a month!
It’s been an amazing ride, and here at Envato along with our commitment to growing AppStorm, we are completely committed to making our marketplaces the best around. That’s why I’m very excited today to announce that as of the end of September we are rolling out some dramatically improved rates for all our exclusive authors! (more…)
Here at Envato we’re pretty famous for building a lot of successful blogs, like this one! We’ve done quite a few now, so last year I decided other people might find our techniques and systems useful. Today I’m really happy to announce my new book How to Build a Successful Blog Business which is a step by step guide to doing what we do, and it comes packed with case studies for our blogs including Mac.AppStorm! We’re announcing a new type of post on AppStorm today: Quick Look. These short application overviews will give you a description, a few screenshots, and basic information about a particular piece of software. They’re sponsored, so developers pay a small fee to have their app featured in a Quick Look post.
At the end of each post we’ll have a poll for readers to vote in. If you like what you see, you can vote for us to write a full (completely unbiased) review of the software in question.
It’s a great way to find out about new applications you haven’t come across before and a great way for developers to get the word out about their new app. We’ll have a few of these posts appearing over the course of this week so you’ll be able to see how they work.
Quick Look posts will be in addition to our regular publishing schedule here at AppStorm. So you’ll continue getting the same great reviews, roundups and guides, plus you’ll now get Quick Looks at new and interesting apps!
We’re very excited by the prospect of showcasing more apps, finding AppStorm a new revenue source to help us grow, and giving developers a promotional tool to market their work. We’d love to hear your feedback on this addition, so feel free to leave a comment or send us an email.
Promote Your App on Quick Look
If you’d like to have your application featured, Quick Look posts cost $49 and will help you reach an audience of people who love their Mac! Fill in this form to reserve a post.
After showcasing a selection of fantastic Mac setups earlier this week, we thought it would be an interesting idea to showcase where our readers work! We’d love for you to upload a photo of your desk, office, or computer, and we’ll feature them all in another roundup next week.
We’ve put together a simple form to send us your photo, and are really looking forward to seeing where you work. Just click through to upload your image!
I’m excited to announce that tomorrow marks the start of the AppStorm Christmas Giveaway. We’ll be running this across both Mac.AppStorm, and Web.AppStorm, and it’s going to be huge! We’ll be giving away a different application every day between the 1st and 24th December. On the 24th, we’re finishing off with an enormous finale including some fantastic Apple hardware.
The total value of all the prizes included in the Mac.AppStorm competitions exceeds $7,000, with over 138 licenses up for grabs. It’s something not to be missed, so read on for a sneak preview of the software on offer and a special AppStorm Christmas wallpaper!
The best way to make work feel like not work is to do something you enjoy, and do it damn well. That’s why I’m happy to announce the newest Envato blog: WorkAwesome! As you might guess from the name, it’s a site for people who want to be awesome at work. After all, if you’re going to spend eight hours a day doing something, you may as well put some heart into it!
