Roundups

We posted earlier this year about how to clean up your Mac, but today I thought it would be interesting to share a selection of applications that can really simplify your Mac experience. While being “minimal” isn’t everything – and nor is it for everyone – it’s a fun exercise to try from time to time.

We’ll be considering applications that help you take notes, use the Dock and Finder less, quickly share files, and search easier. Even if you don’t buy into the minimal philosophy, there may be something that you find very useful!

Although the icons that ship with OS X are wonderfully designed, there’s no harm in a change from time-to-time. It might be a complete rework of your system icons, or just a case of replacing one or two for specific applications.

Today I’ll be showcasing 6 places where you can find the perfect icon. We’re focusing on the absolute highest quality, so you can rest assured you won’t find any second rate design here!

Today we’re going to be taking a look at several audio recording applications for OS X. Although GarageBand has become the bundled application for sound recording, we’ll also be investigating a number of smaller and more specialised pieces of software.

Everyone has an inherent fascination with desktop wallpapers. Operating system developers spend a long time shipping the perfect set with a new OS release, even commissioning photographers to shoot suitable, vivid images.

We’ve certainly covered wallpapers in the past – rounding up gorgeous Mac wallpapers, a selection of iPhone backgrounds, and even running our own wallpaper competition. Today we’re looking at 7 different places to find your own wallpaper inspiration. Hopefully you’ll find something you like!

I’ll be the first to admit that there’s nothing particularly fascinating about archiving and zipping files. It’s a fairly mundane operation, but something that many of us do regularly on a day-to-day basis. For that reason, it seems sensible to spend a few minutes picking the right application for the job.

This roundup will cover 5 different apps that can help make archiving easier. One you’ll certainly already have, and the others are mostly free or relatively inexpensive. I hope you find something useful to make your life slightly easier!

Although Dashboard received a huge amount of attention when it was originally released, it has since become a fairly standard feature of OS X. Thousands of different widgets are available – some far more useful than others.

Today I’ll be taking a look at 10 widgets that really stand out from the crowd, and have something unique and interesting to offer you in your day-to-day computer use. I hope you find a few of them useful!
