Funny, if a little exaggerated. Tech support people often often take a lot of flak for asking everyone “stupid questions” (e.g. “have you tried rebooting?”). But there’s a reason for it in many cases: They can’t tell what your level of expertise is, and they have to check for every possibility. With phone support, things go a lot smoother if you put your ego on hold and just follow the steps the phone techs list.
That said, there isn’t really much excuse in any support situation for the “first-time technology users…” comment.
