  • Requirement: Mac OS X 10.5.7 Leopard or later
    I’ll wait a bit until I’m on 10.5.7

  • The 1st link for Pixelmator (in the beginning of the article) website is broken.

  • Not a good replacement or alternative for Photoshop, there is a slight learning curve if you are moving from it.

  • To sum this all up, pixelmator is about the equivalent to Photoshop Elements 8

  • I think PM is really nice, though it still has a bit of catching up to do to PS to be a serious contender for a PS replacement. Layer handling enhancements, palette collasping/expanding, and PS brush support (though I think it may have this, not sure) and customizability, will be big leaps forward. All in all though, a GREAT, SUPER FAST program from what I’ve seen of it. There is a bit of a learning curve, but its not bad if you’re used to other graphic programs.

  • Good replacement for those who can’t afford Photoshop.

  • Pixelmator is beautifully designed, a real pleasure to use – I absolutely love it.

  • A pal of mine was just wondering the other day if Pixelmator would be a worthy replacement for PS, mostly for designing web layouts.

    • Last time i tried pixelmator it had a quite limited selection tool. If the selection tool is still the same i would not recommend pixelmator for web design

  • I think Pixelator it’s great,it has a great UI and it’s fast…

  • I use Pixelmator for little jobs when Photoshop isn’t open. People are right, this is no Photoshop killer but at that price what did you expect. For the cost you are getting an amazing product and whilst it doesn’t have the beef of Photoshop the developers are constantly updating it and yes you can make a decent web site using this app. Also check out some of the tutorials on their site.

  • Best mac only mac app

  • This app is awesome.

  • Yes, this is amazing, but no:
    Layer styles and Rounded Corners

  • You can achieve the same results with PM as in PS. There are some quality tutorials out there that show you how to get the most out of PM.

Check out http://www.abduzeedo.com where you can find effects created with both PM and PS.

You just have to learn how to use PM and you will get the same (hobbiest level) results.

  • Pixelmator will never be interesting until they add more font options.

  • I honestly don’t know what the developer has in mind. PM would sell a lot if they add vector-based pen bezier controls, shapes and some basic stuff we need in web design work. I know they’re focused on photo-retouching, but who cares? It misses a core feature. Wake up guys! You could be an affordable replacement for PSD…

  • …and for those complaining about its learning curve: you must be joking. PSD (and AI, InD,…) has the stupidest UI ever designed, crashes all the time, a daily pain I have to deal with, almost a cancer. PM is just easy compared to them.

  • I tell you my experience:

    First kick in the balls:
    Last year I bought a 60USD.
Today they sell in the AppStore to 29USD

This month, in the last update
Pixelmator broke some images by manipulating their size.
    And was the paint error.
These 2 things (super basic) always used them without problems.

    The people of Pixelmator replied:
“in the next update, will be fixed”

I was very upset and I was sad, because these errors coincided with the widespread news that they had reached the million dollars by selling Pixelmator in the AppStore.

Final: To get around these errors, I had to re-install a version
above. I mean … Pixelmator, to me, should be an eternal beta.
