Delineato is a beautiful new diagramming and mind mapping app, but in order to appreciate this app, you will need to forget what you know about apps in this genre. Forget the loaded toolbars, tons of options, and feature laden apps.

Delineato is the OmmWriter of brainstorming apps, complete with a track of Zen music to help keep you focused. In my recent comparison of several mind mapping apps, I divided the apps into two categories — minimalist and power user. But this app is in a category of its own.

The list is long and growing of applications designed to help you visually make sense of information. These range in price from free to several hundred dollars. MyThoughts from Mode de Vie Software lands somewhere in the middle of this spectrum, at $49.00.

While so many of the other applications heroically pack on features in an effort to appeal to everyone, MyThoughts takes the radical approach of being a mind mapping program that actually behaves just as a mind mapping program should.

This single-minded approach has earned my admiration. Let’s see if it should earn your software dollar.

Anyone who works extensively with diagrams will be hard-pressed to find a more full-featured application than OmniGraffle. It packs all the functions anyone needs to create attractive and professional charts, graphs and diagrams.

But how about those of us with less formal diagramming needs? How does OmniGraffle work for us? We’ll be exploring this question today as we uncover the power of this mainstay of the Mac environment.
