It used to be that if you wanted to buy a game for your Mac, you had to dig into the crates at your local CompUSA and find a version of Tetris that might work on OS 7. But now, Mac gamers are starting to be taken seriously, and there’s a whole world of to programs to buy.

If that wasn’t cool enough, we also have the Steam platform, making it simple to purchase games on the fly. But enough about that, let’s get into the good stuff. After the jump, check out some great, blockbuster games that are available to download and play on your Mac right now!

Gaming has come an awfully long way over the last decade, but many of us still have fond memories of the age of DOS based gameplay. Whether it’s to rekindle a sense of nostalgia, or enjoy some of the classic game story-lines, the ability to play DOS games on a modern Mac is something that many would find interesting.

Enter Boxer, a wonderfully designed OS X application for running these classic games on your Mac. Boxer is completely free, and takes away all the hassle of getting these old games to run. It even includes a few sample titles, and points you in the right direction to find more.

Who said that OS X isn’t a platform for gamers? Whilst we may still be a long way from being able to run all the latest game releases, a wide range of software with stunning graphics and compelling gameplay is available.

Believe it or not, the Mac is catching up Windows as a platform for rich, immersive gaming. Whilst big budget games such as ToCA Race Driver 3 and Call of Duty 4 really push the envelope in Mac gaming, you don’t necessarily need to empty your wallet to enjoy an addictive game or two.

We’ll be taking a look at ten different games – each costing less than $20 – which can provide hours of entertainment. Apple create great tools for business, education and design – but there’s no harm in letting the big kid out now and then!
