Ever get nostalgic for 8-bit gaming, but don’t want to play an old game in Dosbox? Shaun Imman‘s critically acclaimed The Last Rocket was a hit on the iPhone when it launched last year, earning 10 stars in our own review.
The Last Rocket has just recently been released for the Mac, and I was eager to try it out as soon as I saw it in the App Store. Spoiler: it was every bit as good as I expected.
This post is part of a series that revisits some of our readers’ favorite articles from the past that still contain awesome and relevant information that you might find useful. This post was originally published on March 16th, 2011.
We all love our phones, and often try to express ourselves through them. While it’s fairly easy to do so via individual backgrounds, creating ringtones isn’t quite that simple. Of course, there’s GarageBand which can be used for this purpose, but isn’t there an easier way?
Indeed there is. Today we will introduce 4 different apps available on the Mac App Store which enable you to quickly and easily create ringtones for your iPhone. Meet Ringtones, Ringer, i Am Ringer and iRingtones!
9to5Mac recently posted an article titled, “Does Apple have to kill the iPod?” that has a lot of people talking. Though I definitely don’t agree with all of the logic presented, the overall topic is one that I’ve been considering myself for quite a while.
The entire line of iPods seems to be in a state of uncertainty. Read on too see why I think that iPods aren’t going away anytime soon but are indeed ready for some major changes.
I’m excited to let you know that we’ve chosen the ten lucky winners! Did you make the cut?

Ensoul is a great application for creating and preparing beautiful iPhone backgrounds and contact images. It has a stunning interface, a simple workflow, and even handles the process of transferring the images across to your phone (you can read our full review here).
Entering the competition is really easy. All you need to do is leave a comment below, telling us how often you change your iPhone background! Is it every month? Every week? Or every day?
The competition will run for one week, and I’ll pick ten winning comments at random on Thursday, 24th March. Best of luck, and I look forward to hearing what you have to say in the comments!
While the iPhone can already be considered beautiful in itself, there’s nothing wrong with adding some personal touches to it. Specifically, setting your own custom backgrounds – after all, it’s your phone so why not make it look like it belongs to you?
So far, for creating backgrounds on your computer, you had to manually set the size of the desired image (which at least for me involves Googling around a bit) and then send it in some awkward way to your iPhone. Not to mention setting images for your contacts.
With Ensoul, a nifty Mac application, you can create backgrounds and set images for your contacts with just a few clicks, work in a beautiful interface, and transfer everything to your iPhone easily. Meet your iPhone’s new beauty advisor!

This year AppStorm is taking part in Blog Action Day to raise awareness about clean water and water conservation. We’re going to take a moment to think how using your Mac also uses up the world’s water resources, and showcase a few apps useful for understanding this better.
We’ll also think about a few fundraising ideas that you could explore, using the software already on your Mac! Join us after the break for some handy Mac tips, and fascinating environmental information.

Financial megalith Intuit, the company most famously know for its Quickbooks application, has picked up independent financial mac app maker Midnight Apps and its popular Cha-Ching product. What does that mean for Cha-Ching users? It’s not altogether clear yet, but given Intuit’s history with their users after the Mint.com acquisition, you’d be forgiven for thinking things are about to go downhill with Cha-Ching. (more…)
