Christmas Giveaway Day 21: Bento

Bento is a “personal database” solution for OS X, suited to any number of different tasks. It’s very versatile, and could be used for anything from managing contacts to planning events. It integrates well with the iLife suite, can import/export data to various other OS X applications, and has a fully functional iPhone companion app.

We have five full licenses to give away, so read on for more information about the app, and to find out how to enter!

Winners Announced

We’ve picked the five Bento winners, and I’m pleased to let you know that they are:

  • David Clegg
  • Isaak Kwok
  • Tim (this Tim, to be precise)
  • Okky Ghofoer
  • Brandon Vaughan

Congratulations! I’ve passed your information on to the developer, and your license should arrive soon (Christmas may cause a slight delay, but don’t worry – they’ll come through at some point!)

About Bento

Bento is a highly regarded “personal database” application for OS X, allowing you to keep track of almost anything you can imagine. From your book collection to a summary of potential new apartments – it’s useful for a whole range of different needs.

Our Review of Bento

For more information about Bento, I’d strongly recommend giving our review a quick read. Here’s a summary of our thoughts:

Bento is a flexible personal database for OS X, allowing you to stay organized and manage anything from a cub scout pack to a list of recipes. The iPhone application makes all your data completely portable, and synchronization works well.

Our Version 3 Update

We also posted an updated overview of Bento when Version 3 was released, outlining a few of the new features. We found that:

Bento 3 is a welcome update that brings iPhoto integration, sharing and security to the application. The application feels even more like an extension of Apple’s iLife suite.

How to Enter

This is a novel one! Because the name “Bento” comes from “a single-portion takeout or home-packed meal common in Japanese cuisine“, we’d like you to leave a comment letting us know your all-time favourite food.

We’ll select the winning comments at random in 24 hours time, and will update this post with details of the winners shortly afterwards.

A big thanks to FileMaker, the developers of Bento, for sponsoring the competition. Good luck, and be sure to follow us or subscribe so that you can find out if you’re a winner!
